Systems Development Certification route
ISEB has revised the Business Systems Development diploma to reflect a demand for greater flexibility and the need to provide a qualification that recognises the growing internationalisation of the work force. Hence the new title of International Diploma in Solutions Development.
So how have the diplomas changed? There are now three components to both diplomas:
- Core modules which are mandatory
- Knowledge-based specialisms in particular areas which focus on underpinning knowledge
- Practitioner specialisms concerned with the practical application of the required skills
There are two obligatory modules, and then candidates can choose one of the four specialist modules in each of the optional knowledge-based and practitioner streams.
The diagram below highlights the components of the new diplomas

What about written examinations?
The new structure is effective immediately, with written examinations available immediately under the new scheme. There is a 3 month parallel running period with the previous structure, so written examinations may be taken as usual under the previous structure until 1st Feb 2010.
What about oral examinations?
As under the previous structure, an Oral Examination is required to complete the SD Diploma which can be booked once all required written exams have been passed. The oral must be taken within 12 months of the written notification of passing the final exam. The first orals under the new scheme will be available from 1st February 2010.
Oral examinations under the previous scheme will continue to be available until 1st February 2011 to allow candidates who have already started the previous scheme to continue under the old format.
Trainingdeals also offers oral preparation workshops to help candidates prepare for the final examinations. These are structured in the following way:
- 1st day: instructor led revision
- 2nd day: mock oral exam with feedback
